| The Rokeby Chapel |
|
William Rokeby, Vicar of Halifax in 1502 and later Archbishop of Dublin, left a sum of money in his will for the building of a chapel on the south side of the church but Vicar Holdsworth (1625) managed to get in first with his chapel and consequently the Rokeby Chapel was built on the North side. The chapel was restored in 1917 by members of the Waterhouse family and again more recently when the chapel was glazed from the body of the church, carpeted and fitted with independent heating and lighting. It is now a useful venue for meetings and for 'Children's Church' which is held during the 10.30 service most weeks. The altar in the Rokeby Chapel is worth a look. The front panels are made up of a beautiful mosaic.
