The Holdsworth Chapel

As you walk through the nave visit the chapel on your right. Robert Holdsworth built this chantry chapel on the south side of the church. The son of a rich Halifax man, Vicar Holdsworth was involved in feuds between two local families, the Tempests and the Saviles. In 1556 he was found murdered in the vicarage.

Housling Bench.

Again in the Holdsworth Chapel there is more woodwork of interest. The benches which serve as altar rails are 'housling benches' which were covered in linen cloths and used for this purpose before 1634.

Leave the Holdsworth Chapel and cross the nave to The Rokeby Chapel
