The Nave

Picture of the Nave.Continuing the theme of fine woodwork, the Jacobean pews in the nave date from 1633. Tilt your head back and see the paneled ceiling depicting the coats of arms of the twelve tribes of Israel and many of the early Vicars of Halifax.

Many 18th and 19th century monuments adorn the, once plastered, walls and you find yourself imagining the look of the place before the restoration by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1879 when a three decked pulpit reached to the galleries in the north and south aisles.
