Report for 2007 on the events organised by the Social Committee. The
Social Committee meets regularly to plan events to raise much needed income for
the church, but this also allows for church members and friends to meet
socially. We are very grateful to everyone who helps or attends the many
functions that are organised.
The year started with a visit from the wonderful Black Dyke band and the committee
organised the sale of the tickets and refreshments in a very professional
manner. The result was financially successful but also the prestige of our
church was increased by the manner in which the event was organised. In
February – on Shrove Tuesday – the Tuesday Gang performed ‘Oliver Twist’ in the
Causey Hall. This was followed by a supper of pancakes served with a wide
assortment of fillings. Refreshments were also served at the Pennine Brass
Festival in the church and again at the Duke of Wellington’s service on the
31st March when the Regimental Colours were ‘laid-up’. Our
Spring Fayre was held on the 19th May and a Coffee Morning was held
at the home of Mr. & Mrs. R. Bennion in June. Also
in June the Church held an amazing Flower Festival which attracted many
visitors. Our members played a large part in stewarding and serving
refreshments at this memorable event. In
early September we organised a reception to welcome our new Vicar and his
family to Halifax Parish Church, and because the Causey Hall was unavailable,
we used the facilities at Square Chapel - this reception was held after
Hilary’s Induction Service. Also
in September we served refreshments after the opening of the new access ramp
and walkways on the north western side of the church. We
held a Quiz Night and supper in September, another Race Night in October and
again served refreshments at several other concerts. In
November we had our Parish Dinner at the Design House in Dean Clough - good
food, fellowship and our speaker was local actor Peter Alexander. There was
mulled wine and mince pies at the back of church after the Nine Lessons and
Carols Service in December. I
wish to thank, once again, all the members of the Committee for their help,
support and friendship over the past twelve months and we look forward to
another successful year in 2008. |
