The Ladies’ Group is a group of ladies from Halifax Parish Church who meet approximately once a month to enjoy social activities together such as walking, theatre outings, swimming and speakers. We also aim to support a number of different charities. Each Christmas we collect and pack toys, grading them according to the children’s ages. The toys are then given to Smart Move to distribute as they think fit.

We do not have a fixed meeting time, but the times and venues for our activities are announced on the weekly Church Notice Sheet (the News page on the website). Activities in the past year included a meal at ‘Design House’, Dean Clough; a Trip to ‘Sound of Music’ sing-a-long at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax; a walk round Hollingworth Lake and supper at the Beech Restaurant; swimming and currant picking at Mary Crossley’s; an Outing to Bolton Woods, ending with tea at the Pavilion; a Talk by Philip Tordoff on ‘Old Gas Lamps’; a cinema evening with Ernest Jennings; and a ‘Film Show’ by Peggy Firth. Members also joined in the annual Mothers’ Union outing.

You are asked to contribute £1 for meetings in people’s homes or the Church and of course normal admission charges for outings.

Since its inception the Ladies’ Group has supported Calderdale Smart Move, a charity that was set up in 1996 (funded by CRISIS and Calderdale Supporting People) to help homeless people or people in vulnerable housing. In early December members are asked to contribute by supplying toys or food which are sorted into hampers for SmartMove to distribute for Christmas.
